Styled Shoot: Spring Carnival

Create your own spring carnival with splashes of vivid red and white. Our theme is reminiscent of the 1950s, with clean lines and decidedly retro influences.

So how did we achieve this sensational style? Well, it was almost too easy! First we covered our table with a plain white cloth and set in place our Finesse white folding chairs. Our curtained backdrop was effortless and you can easily imagine this as the walls of your hired marquee should you decide upon a home wedding reception. Our tableware added an elegant yet understated note, set off to perfection by our silverware and sparkling glassware with the cutest polka dots.

With our backdrop in place, it was time to splash out. We filled vintage milk glass vases with a riot of red begonias and variegated Sim carnations, a perfect match for our theme. You could source an array of milk glass vases from local vintage stores or search on eBay®. After your wedding they would make a stunning display at home – the perfect receptacle for any colour flowers. We then added more red blossoms in our cute Weddingstar wicker baskets, and our red and white polka dot bands around plain white napkins made for a perfect finishing touch.

Voila! An exuberant look that is really quite easy to achieve, yet the effect is absolutely stunning. Of course, you can use our basics and then add your own personal touches to this exciting theme. Whatever you choose to do, you can be sure that your guests will be left in no doubt that happy days are here again!

With the main elements of our red and white spring carnival theme in place, we thought that just a few more pretty touches would be perfect. So we really couldn’t go past Weddingstar’s floral patterned table numbers coupled with their simple but oh-so-elegant silver place card holders. And, could we resist their gorgeous fan place name cards? Of course not!

Polka dots are fun! And our delightful red polka dot wedding gown cookies look utterly delicious accompanied by mini milk bottles with red and white spiral striped straws. If you just love the idea of polka dots, why not have your bridesmaids’ bouquets bound with polka dot ribbon? Plus, a polka dot tablecloth – red and white of course – might be just the thing you were looking for to cover your gift, wishing well, or cake table. This is such a simple theme, but what a style statement! One that will put a smile on all of your guests’ faces. Especially those that remember the ’50s.

You’d like to create wow factor in abundance? Easy! Choose a white wedding cake decorated with red icing. Our eye-catching confection is a show-stopper and we absolutely love the simple elegance of the design, topped off with its fresh rich red flowers. And doesn’t the red polka dot cloth suit it just perfectly.

For yet another decorating idea that’s easy to achieve yet big on impact, try combining a white ladder with vases of fresh red flowers: chic, simple and unforgettable. Then there’s our divine retro look red toy car (we all wanted to take this one home!). You can either search second hand shops for a toy car and paint it yourself, or check our suppliers’ list for ready-made availability.

On the following pages you’ll find our stationery inspiration boards. Have fun with your wedding day stationery and express your theme and colours through the clever use of fonts and design. Of course it’s the little touches that mean so much, so we were delighted with our charming knife and fork set, not to mention the vintage wooden scrabble letters that we sourced on eBay™.

Retro and vintage items are so very popular as wedding theme elements at the moment. The trick is to take the ‘old’ and make it ‘new’ again; to express an era in a modern, fresh way. Then, kick up your heels, have fun and celebrate all the happy days to come.
