Canberra Wedding Of The Year Winners 2017: Alyce & Slavko

The lavish country estate was simply ideal for Alyce and Slavko’s rustic theme with plenty of natural elements and colours enriched with splashes of burgundy and rose gold.

How They Met
Alyce and Slavko had their first brief encounter in her cousin’s kitchen. He was working and she was checking on progress. He made a forward comment with a cheeky grin on his face and she couldn’t even look him in the eye. They officially met each other at her cousin’s daughter’s christening. He sat next to her in the church and later that day they went for a walk together.

The Proposal
Slav’s proposal was very romantic. He took Alyce to the beautiful Plitvice national park in Croatia and proposed in a little row boat under the waterfall while they were exploring the lakes. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

The Venue
The couple tied the knot at the Pialligo Estate on the banks of Molonglo River. The ceremony was held outside on the lawns surrounded by the vineyards and orchards, while the reception venue was the magnificent glass house that provided spectacular sunset views.

The Styling
Their wedding theme was rustic elegance with a modern twist and it perfectly complemented the venue. Alyce has found inspiration for the green, burgundy, cream and rose gold colour palette in the Canberra edition of The Bride’s Diary magazine.

The Decorations
Alyce and her mum sourced all the decorations by themselves. They spent a lot of time looking for decorative pieces in rose gold and copper and found a lot of pretty vases, lanterns and candle holders. They spray painted table numbers in rose gold and made a unique seating chart, while the father of the bride created a DIY arbour which was then adorned with artificial blooms.

Bride’s Attire
Alyce was wearing a strapless lace wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline designed by Stella York. She accessorised the gown with rose gold earrings borrowed from mum, a lush, bohemian-style flower crown and a long veil.

The Bridesmaid Dresses
Bridesmaids wore burgundy dresses purchased from Nouveau Riche Bridal. “It was a very flattering dress on every bridesmaid and the colour suited everyone! It was just an absolute bonus that the colour went so well with the scenery of our venue”, said the bride.

The Groom’s Suit
Slavko purchased his groom’s suit in Thailand. He picked an elegant navy suit and styled with a bow tie in burgundy to match the colour of the bridesmaid dresses

The Wedding Cake
The semi-naked wedding cake was adorned with the same flowers used for bouquets and table arrangements. It was a delicious vanilla cake with buttercream icing and guests loved it so much that there were no leftovers at the end of the party!

Daniel’s work (from Keepsakephoto by the Keeffes) speaks for itself, it’s so natural and beautiful and catches all the special moments. He takes so much care with all of his clients, and I cannot commend his work enough!
