Real Wedding: Katie & Ben's Eclectic Vintage Wedding

Inspired by their beautiful country venue, Katie and Ben teamed vintage furniture and decorations with quirky, colourful details and geometric shapes.

Katie and Ben met each other through mutual friends and kept seeing each other at parties, but it wasn’t until she suddenly decided to move to the UK for 9 months that the romance started to unfold. After her farewell bash they spent hours sitting on the deck talking while everyone else was asleep. They kept in touch while she was away and their friendship started to evolve. The proposal was a complete surprise for Katie. Ben planned the proposal so well that Katie didn’t even realise what was happening when he got down on one knee. He took her for a walk on the beach to an alcove where he arranged the sweetest proposal setting with music, a “marry me” sign and a picnic table with delicious muffins, savoury plates, fruit and champagne.

With a love for the outdoors the couple decided to marry on a cattle farm. It was large enough for 150 guests and captured the stunning Somerset Dam views. The day was picture perfect with no wind and the most ideal climate. The dam was glass like and the surrounding landscape was picturesque! After the ceremony Katie and Ben started their gorgeous photo shoot while their guests mingled listening to a string quartet and drinking champagne.

Katie opted for a vintage-style all lace gown which she accessorised with boots because they were practical (especially being on a farm), warm and great for dancing! While Katie opted for a traditional, white wedding dress, Ben picked an ivory suit and styled it with a blue shirt and a colourful bow tie. Relaxed, yet very elegant, their outfits were perfect for a countryside wedding.

The farm and the hall easily lent themselves to an eclectic vintage approach. However, with the hall being so dark Katie and Ben felt that it needed colour and white to make it pop. They contrasted eclectic vintage style furniture and brightly coloured decorations in geometric shapes to bring a fun vibe to the reception venue. Katie and Ben felt it was more of an extension of their personalities rather than a "theme".

Photography was one of the most important elements to Katie and Ben's wedding. They believed that in the end after the day was over you are left with only two things: images that remind you of the day and rings that remind you of the promise you made to each other. Kaite and Ben chose Vivid Photography knowing they were up there with the best in the wedding industry. Ben said "every time we look at Vivid’s stunning images we are both blown away and we fall in love with the wedding all over again".
