South Australian Wedding Of The Year 2016: Alice & Ross

The couple used shades of coral pink, green and white for their garden wedding theme, and added some vintage elements as well as vibrant seasonal flowers to make their venue look adorable.

When Ross met Alice for the first time, he told her they should get married because their names are similar. She thought it was a little forward, and promised to go on a date with him in a year’s time. They bumped into each other two years later, and Ross asked her out by filling her room with hundreds of balloons, and one of them had a note inside. Alice couldn’t resist!

The proposal was much less dramatic than the first date. Ross took Alice to Adelaide Hills where they had a slow, romantic breakfast on a Sunday morning, and popped the question later that day, in front of the fire in their living room. There was a lot of excitement and even some tears.

With its magnificent garden which is said to be one of the prettiest in Adelaide, Al Ru Farm was the perfect setting for their big day. They used different areas of the property and had their ceremony and cocktails outside, while the banquet was held in a beautifully decorated marquee. Being an exquisite gardener, Alice’s mother was in charge of the flowers, while Ross created hanging centerpieces with old ladders and ivy.

The couple had a unique ceremony with a lot of personal touches. Their marriage celebrant was their school chaplain, Jim Keatch, and everything started with bridesmaids and groomsmen setting the scene with the story of how they met, followed by the exchange of wedding vows which they wrote together.

Alice had always planned on organising everything for the wedding herself, but as the date got closer and the list got longer Crystel Newman from Your Desire Events came to the rescue! Crystel turned what could have been an extremely stressful process into a thoroughly enjoyable one for Alice and Ross.

Alice’s wedding gown was an A-line cap-sleeved number with corded French lace and georgette floating skirt which she paired with coral pink Ferragamo shoes to match the colour of the bridesmaid dresses. She wore three heirloom rings which belonged to her mother and both of her late grandmothers. Delicate pearl earrings are the present from her mother, and wedding bands from Fairfax and Roberts were purchased by the happy couple during their holiday in Sydney. After their big day, Alice and Ross went on a three-week long honeymoon in South America which was adventurous and fun.

A family friend of mine gave me some wise advice, she said ‘It will go so quickly, just make sure you stop and realise how wonderful it is and how happy you are every couple of hours – don’t worry about anything and it will be the best day of your life.’ So that is what we did, and it was!
