Real Wedding: Martina & Karl's Alpine-Style Destination Wedding

Martina and Karl were doing the same course at University and their relationship got serious very quickly after they first started seeing each other. They couple became best friends and always knew they would get married. After eight years of dating, they decided to tie the knot.

Karl chose their romantic holiday in Innsbruck, Austria to propose. He popped the question at the fairy lit park covered by snow on their way to the hotel and Martina said “yes”. It was just after Christmas in December, 2011 and the air was filled with romance. The couple spent their first holiday in this charming alpine town and it served as a main source of inspiration for their big day.

Instead of celebrating their wedding in Sydney, Martina and Karl decided to organise an alpine-style destination wedding in the quaint village of Thredbo. The celebration turned into an exciting four-day party and the most memorable moment for the couple was walking into the beautiful reception venue and being introduced as husband and wife for the first time.

Martina wore a gorgeous strapless white wedding dress by Lisa Gowing. The simple and yet elegant bridal gown suited her perfectly and contrasted chic floor-length bridesmaid’s dresses in navy designed by Michael Lo Sordo. “When I tried on my dress I knew instantly that it was the one I wanted. It was simple, flattering and had the most amazing skirt”, said Martina.

To add a vintage feel to their event, Martina and Karl have chosen a retro VW van by Kombi Bliss which looked amazing in their wedding photos. It was the perfect wedding transport option and the inspiration came from their unforgettable trip around Europe in a van.

They exchanged their vows at St James Church in Beloco, surrounded by the beautiful Snowy Mountains. After an intimate ceremony, followed by cocktails and canapés in the garden outside the church, the happy couple and their guests headed towards the reception venue.

They enjoyed the most fabulous reception at The Denman Hotel; a warm and inviting boutique Hotel in the heart of Thredbo Village, which has huge glass windows overlooking Thredbo Mountain. The rustic interior with stone walls and wooden chairs was styled with elegant details such as pastel-coloured floral arrangements in glass vases wrapped with blue ribbons, and many of the guests commented on how amazing the venue looked and how delicious the food was. The idea for the tiered cheese wedding cake came from The Bride’s Diary, while Wild Brumby Scnhapps Bottles made a lovely bonbonniere. The venue also offered accommodation for all the guests and they were treated to a wonderful breakfast spread on the morning after the wedding.
