Zuhair Murad Couture Spring 2018

This couture collection is a unique homage to the ancient tribes of the Sioux, the Navajos and the Iroquois and features a range of gorgeous bridal looks with delicate embellishments.

“Both ornamental and spiritual, this collection tells the tale of a femininity that is instinctive and rigorous”, said Zuhair Murad about his stunning couture spring 2018 collection and we couldn’t agree more! The evening looks ranged from luxe bohemian dresses and jumpsuits to classic princess-style A-line gowns all offering numerous references to Native American cultural heritage. Refined fabrics were adorned with feathers, pearls, crystals, fringes and filigree embroideries – all inspired by tribes of Cherokee, Inuit, Etowah, Navajo, Sioux and Apache, to name a few.

The craftsmanship is truly exceptional and each of the styles is very ornate, brimming with tribal-inspired prints, embellishments, pictograms and even unexpected motifs like bright-coloured cacti and flames. Traditional designs were beautifully incorporated to complement utterly modern silhouettes featuring bold cut-outs, daring lengths and overflowing overlays.

Wedding-worthy looks included dresses and embellished trouser suits in white, nude and metallic shades. A couple of white dresses oozed bohemian chic and would make wonderful looks for destination weddings, while slinky and unbearably sparkly metallic frocks are ideal for the after-party dance floor. The collection even includes a few adorable minis such as chic triangle-shaped dress bedecked with pearls, fringing, long-sleeves and bare shoulders.

Materials include lavish laces and bold macramé, heavy jacquards and lightweight organzas. Fabrics were mixed and matched and layers were thrown upon layers to achieve richer and more luxurious textures, while jewelled belts were sometimes used to accentuate the waist.

The showpiece everyone was waiting for was, of course, the wedding gown at the very end of the show. It was a breathtaking white gown, heavily embellished with crystals and beads. Modern and traditional at the same time, this dress featured long sleeves, divine illusion detailing around the neckline and a ballgown overlay that added drama to a semi-transparent A-line silhouette. And to finish off this decadent look, Murad added a few jaw-dropping details, namely the impossibly long, embellished veil with jewels on top and oversized feather earrings.

Feathers were also pinned into the hair to add an instant touch of decadence and we love this idea for a bohemian wedding!
