Elie Saab Bridal Spring 2019

Inspired by the ball culture of Vienna, Elie Saab’s new bridal collection for spring 2019 is opulent and nostalgic, featuring a myriad of gorgeous ballgowns and a number of stylishly fitted lace dresses.

Elie Saab’s bridal collection for spring 2019 is inspired by the famed Viennese balls and Austrian aristocracy from bygone eras. He admired the flamboyant empress Sissi (the style queen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) and her extraordinary sense of fashion. To this day her wedding gown remains to be a mystery. Nobody knows what it looked like or where it vanished to. However, there are a number of pictures of the Austrian Kaiserin wearing breath-taking white dresses featuring gigantic skirts, endless trains and extravagant beadwork. These unique pieces influenced the Saab profoundly and the result was an intriguing collection comprised of luxurious ballgowns.

Unlike the previous collection which was utterly modern, this collection is steeped in nostalgia and undoubtedly much more decadent. Enchanting laces, intricate embellishments, dazzling floral appliques and layers upon layers of fluttery tulle and organza are irrefutably feminine and sophisticated, exuding romance of 19th century Europe and its high society. However, Saab cleverly combined tradition with innovation and gave an interpretation which is fresh and contemporary. Many wedding dresses featured removable overskirts offering two different looks to the brides – the first for the ceremony and the second for the reception. The off-the-shoulder sleeves and revealing illusion or V-shape necklines also added a fresh touch to these traditional gowns.

While most of the wedding gowns from this collection were painstakingly embellished, featuring hundreds or thousands of glistening sequins, beads, jewels and mini 3D florals, some of them were plain and simple, but equally extravagant. Saab played with volume, layers and pleating to create outrageous shapes.

For brides-to-be who prefer something a little less formal, there were a few stunning looks! A beautiful sheath gown crafted from embellished lace and topped with a matching sequined cape offered a distinct bohemian touch, while the frothy tulle A-line gown makes a tempting alternative to the classic ballgown silhouette. The hair accessories also caught our eye! Models wore intricately embellished veils, thin, delicate strings of pearls and mini florals and sparkly, jeweled hair bands.
