Shimmery, glamorous and dramatic just like the jazz era of the 1920’s, Elie Saab’s couture gowns were glowing on the catwalk! Every piece from this collection was elaborately embellished, with a few gowns covered head-to-toe in gleaming pearls or flamboyant ostrich feathers and topped with an eye-catching bow stretching from shoulder to shoulder. Accessories included jewelled head pieces, statement earrings, decadent sun glasses, metallic shoes and fringed bags, all adding to the drama.
Elie Saab’s show-stopping couture collection is teeming with his signature adornments. This time they were inspired by the art scene, flapper fashion and vibrant night life of Paris during the ever-so-romantic twenties. His muses were the style icons of the era such as Josephine Baker, Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois also known as Mistinguett and Alice Prin nicknamed Kiki de Montparnasse. Even though the dresses ooze with vintage flair, they are also undeniably modern featuring many of the on-trend elements such as high-and-low hemlines, daringly low necklines, dramatic cut-outs, delicate translucent fabrics and ethereal overlays.
The key shades for this collection include frothy champagne, gleaming silver, light gold and powdery blue, but the colour palette is spiced up with splashes of black, bold red and bright pink. Many shimmery dresses in gold, champagne and blush pink hues could easily double as bridal gowns, while bolder, more colourful looks could definitely serve as inspiration for bridesmaid outfits or pre-wedding parties.
The final look that closed the show was a spectacular bridal gown heavily embellished with large shimmering beads and styled with a gorgeous bejewelled headpiece and a delicate tulle veil. We love the cut-outs around the neckline, the frothy ball gown overlay and the breath-taking Art Deco-inspired embellishments which were so beautifully complemented by the decadent, modern accessories in silver.
