Galia Lahav's Victorian Affinity Collection

The gowns from Galia Lahav’s latest collection 'Victorian Affinity' are very modern and super sexy but the intricate Victorian details have given them that irresistible vintage appeal.

Inspired by Victorian England and Le Belle Epoque in France, wedding dresses by Galia Lahav exude romance embodied in ethereal sleeves, sweeping capes, wide skirts and high necks. But these vintage silhouettes are deconstructed and interrupted with sexy cuts, bare backs and plunging necklines to offer a new vision of femininity.

Back in the 19th century, fashion was influenced by industrial revolution, and it was an era of remarkable innovations and daring experiments. Jeanne Margaine Lacroix was a designer who dared to revolutionise the way women dressed and introduced sexier, more relaxed and slender silhouettes to replace the iconic crinolines and tight corsets. Galia Lahav dedicated this bridal collection to the brave designer and gave the traditional wedding dress a makeover. The emphasis is on big volumes and shimmery embellishments, but retro silhouettes are completely redefined and refreshed with contemporary details.

The Victorian Affinity collection is haute couture at its finest. You will find masterfully tailored and intricately woven laces, crystal-studded tulles and pearl-encrusted fabrics. Translucent layers are contrasted with opaque laces and voluminous shapes, and the colour palette comprises delicate shades such as ivory, silver, pink, blush and cream.

Many of the wedding gowns from this collection feature detachable elements such as capes, skirts and billowy sleeves, offering brides more than one outfit. This is a very modern take on a Victorian ball gown which can be transformed from a buttoned-up look for the ceremony into a sexy dress for the reception so easily!

Another detail on the gown we loved is the subtle sheen. One of the wedding dresses from the collection features 280 Swarovski crystals and yet it does not seem overembellished at all. And then there is the Thelma dress which is a homage to Queen Victoria’s wedding gown! This elaborate dress features a lot of cut-outs that accentuate female curves, an off-the-shoulder neckline, a bodice with an antique applique ornament, draped tulle sleeves and a sheer back made from delicate blush Chantilly lace. These delicate fabrics are also adorned with Swarovski crystals and shiny white pearls. Its removable bustle train is made of silk organza and features a big vintage lace medallion in the centre.
