Jenny Packham Spring 2018 Bridal

Inspired by the trapeze artist Clara the Swallow from Colin Thubron’s novel Falling, Jenny Packham’s spring collection was innovative and intriguing.

For the Jenny Packham spring 2018 bridal show, the runway looked like it was straight out of a circus tent! The entrance to the catwalk was prepped with circus-like, star-shaped light boxes. The first gown that opened the show was inspired by Colin Thunron’s novel Falling which tells the story of trapeze artist Clara the Swallow. It was a short crimson red dress featuring a ruffled tulle skirt and a heavily embellished bodice with a deep V-neck. This vibrant shade of red was an unexpected addition to the colour palette which included only bridal whites with a hint of silver. Even though the red gowns are so bold and eye-catching, the wedding dresses were romantic and girly with a strong vintage flavour. “Our brides have always been a little alternative”, says Jenny Packham who always likes to be “a bit daring” and take “a few risks”.

Adding a range of separates to the traditional wedding dress range was a novelty too. The idea was to offer a number of pieces which can be combined in multiple ways and enable brides to create their own unique look. You can wear a strapless wedding gown with an embellished capelet, a long sleeved lace dress on top of a mini frock, or even a pair of white trousers with a bejewelled bodice and a cathedral train!

The collection consisted of 35 looks including everything from short to long, slinky to voluminous and traditional to modern. And it wouldn’t be a Jenny Packham collection without gleaming embellishments. The dresses were tastefully adorned with sequins, satin bows, marabou feathers, tiny beads, metallic stitches and very sparkly crystals.

Our favourite looks? Dreamy A-line gowns with corseted bodices and silk slip dresses which were so perfectly paired with bejewelled tops.

Accessories were just as romantic and as extravagant as the wedding gowns. Jenny Packham’s brides wore bejewelled hair bands, embellished high heel shoes, bold necklaces and floral hoops by Jane Packer Flowers which are a gorgeous alternative to classic bridal bouquets.
