In addition to the utterly chic, revamped 1980s Chanel suit accessorised with a whimsical hat, Karl Lagerfeld showcased a fascinating line-up of couture dresses ranging from smart casual frocks to disco diva outfits and opulent ball gowns.
The setting for the show was inspired by the lavish 1930 interior designs by Syrie Maugham, and the catwalk was covered in mirrors. Sequinned dresses and trouser suits looked even more enchanting reflected in the mirrors as models swiftly moved across the runway. “I think it was the perfect setting for this collection”, said Lagerfeld and we think it may be an idea you can use to create a stunning wedding reception space.
The whole collection oozed glamour and silver sparkle with an emphasis on silhouette. Instead of florals, Lagerfeld used abstract patterns which gave a futuristic feel to the dresses. From short ballerina-style frocks and fringed 1920s dresses to cropped tea-length ball gowns, vintage and modern influences were merged into something utterly unique.
A belt positioned above the waistline was a chic but quirky detail inspired by sculptures of Alberto Giacometti, and we love it! A belt will elongate your silhouette and make you seem taller.
The colours ranged from crisp, bridal whites and light sorbet pinks and yellows to metallic blue, silver and grey. Black was frequently used as well often combined with white to create a strong contrast. We especially loved the strapless white gown with a puffy skirt styled with a black lace cape.
Looking for inspiration for your big day? There were many wedding-worthy looks including the embellished silver dresses which are ideal for the dance floor and the frothy pink ball gown with ruffles on the skirt and sleeves which closed the show.
To complement the sparkly dresses the hair was parted to the side and slicked back into a low bun. The make-up included nude lips, contoured cheek bones and a splash of silver glitter on the high points of the cheeks.
