The trend

When celebrities started dressing their bridal party in all-white bridesmaid dresses it quickly become a global wedding trend. It all started with the royal wedding when Pippa Middleton showed up in a beautiful white gown by Alexander McQueen which complemented Kate’s gorgeous lace gown from the same designer. Celebrity bridesmaids who have worn white include Jessica Simpson, Beyonce and Cara Delevingne, and we think that Kate Moss really pulled off the look with the entire bridal party at her ceremony being dressed in romantic bohemian white bridesmaid dresses!

If you want to break away from tradition and avoid the popular bridesmaid dress colours, white is the perfect choice because it blends well with any backdrop. Want an all-white wedding reception? Then your bridesmaids should wear white outfits too! We love this colour for outdoor weddings, especially in a tranquil country setting with lots of greenery that makes those fluttery fabrics really stand out.

The style

Not sure which style to choose? It can be a dress inspired by your own wedding gown, a streamlined style that makes your own outfit stand out or even a selection of mismatched styles, each made from a different fabric. Trendy silhouettes for bridesmaid dresses include cap sleeves, one-shoulder dresses, sheer layers, tiered skirts and two-piece ensembles. If you are going for all-white the safest bet is to have identical dresses for each of your bridesmaids and a design that is similar to your own. This uniformed look is ideal if you are planning a formal event, but if you prefer something much more relaxed, feel free to mix and match, and be playful with the outfits!

The length

A simple way to make your wedding gown stand out is to opt for short bridesmaid dresses. You can use similar fabrics and adornments that are featured on your gown, or go for embellishment-free styles. Long, white bridesmaid dresses are the preferred choice for brides who want that formal bridal party look, but tea-length can achieve the same effect too.

The accessories

This trendy bridesmaid look doesn’t mean you can’t add a splash of colour with a cool accessory such as necklace or shoes. If you love bohemian style, contrast the white of the dresses with vibrant native blooms or floral crowns. Or if you want to keep it simple and traditional, style the dresses with elegant jewellery and clean, white posies.
