The two 2016 Pantone colours of the year have inspired bridal fashion designers to create dreamy and ethereal, lightly tinted wedding gowns. Pale hues of rose quartz and serenity appeared in many collections including Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Khan, Marchesa and Angel Sanchez. These powerful yet subtle shades make beautiful alternatives to traditional white gowns!
Designers were also playful with floral appliques. They were delicate and opulent, coming in all shapes and sizes, evoking the blossoming of nature in spring. Oversized blooms were featured heavily in Marchesa's collection, but Zuhair Murad, Elizabeth Fillmore, and Mira Zwillinger also adorned their wedding gowns with beautiful fabric blooms.
Big bows remind us of the elegance of bygone eras. Wrapped around the waste, or attached to the back of the gown, they add volume and drama to your wedding day look, so be inspired by these glamorous looks from Carolina Herrera, Sachin & Babi, and Elizabeth Fillmore if you want to include this fashionable detail in your wedding day look.
An off the shoulder wedding dress has that spring/summer vibe and it has never been this popular. We spotted this silhouette at many shows including Marchesa, Watters, Rosa Clará and Gala by Galia Lahav. Our favourite take on this look is Rosa Clará's structured gown with bow detail at the front!
Plunging necklines are also a very prominent trend for spring if you're after a sexier silhouette. We saw discreet plunging necklines at Jenny Packham, lace covered necklines at Claire Pettibone and simple gowns with deep V necklines at Oscar de la Renta and Reem Acra.
Gorgeous Victorian-style collars instantly add a touch of old-fashioned glamour to a wedding dress. From Vera Wang’s dramatic, ruffled collars attached to corset-style bodices to Angel Sanchez’s elegant capelets that cover the shoulders and décolletage, this pretty detail works well for both elaborate, long-sleeved gowns like we saw at J.Mendel and simple, sleeveless dresses like Elizabeth Fillmore.
And if you need an extra layer on top of your wedding gown, an elegant bridal jacket or a cape is the perfect accessory. A translucent embroidered cape by Claire Pettibone is ideal for a church ceremony, or if you want a stylish accessory to keep you warm in the evening, then opt for a feathery shrug like the one by Temperley London or Elie Saab.
Brides who want to wear something comfortable yet still stylish on their wedding day can opt for a pair of white trousers! Bridal trousers are a hot trend coming straight from the 2017 spring bridal catwalks, so be inspired by these amazing looks from Carolina Herrera, Elie Saab (our favourite look), Christian Siriano and Lela Rose.
