Oscar de la Renta’s glamorous eveningwear was inspired by Spanish matadors and flamenco, but some of the ball gowns could easily double as wedding dresses. Our eye was caught by a light blue number with big ribbons in a contrasting colour.
Marchesa is a fashion label best known for their bridal collections and couture gowns, but their ready-to-wear collections always feature a few breath-taking wedding looks. This time designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman showcased some show-stopping dresses with sheer layers, pastel-coloured feathers and stunning 3D embroideries.
Dennis Basso also presented some gorgeous bridal looks in ivory and metallic shades. His collection was inspired by the cities south of the American border such as Rio, Acapulco and Caracas, and combines the Latin style with modern and playful details and opulent laces.
Influenced by Frida Kahlo, Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren, Naeem Khan made a beautiful and colourful collection teaming with floral patterns, elaborate beadwork and juicy summer colours such as sorbet pink and lemon yellow. From red carpet events to engagement parties and weddings, his evening gowns are perfect for any special occasion.
Reem Acra included plenty of ethnic elements to her spring/summer range and mixed together vibrant colours, embroidery and sparkly embellishments. From sexy short dresses to opulent floor-length gowns with translucent overlays, each look from the show was unique and we think will intrigue any bride who loves bohemian style.
Famous for her intricate shiny embellishments, Jenny Packham surprised us with her new collection which featured plenty of colourful floral motifs. Inspired by rock ‘n’ roll stars, she created some extravagant ready-to-wear looks, but also included some awe-inspiring evening gowns such as the sheer ivory dress with colourful wildflower pattern.
The Givenchy show was one of the most talked-about events at New York Fashion Week because of Ricardo Tisci’s collaboration with the artist Marina Abramovic. He utilised recycled materials for dresses and used fabrics and jewels on the models faces instead of make-up, but his conceptual collection inspired by brides and grooms is also full of wearable looks including boudoir-style white frocks.
Zac Posen incorporated new elements to his latest ready-to-wear collection such as detached seams and bohemian-style crochet. The range features many beautiful white dresses, some of which are perfect for summer parties, but our favourite bridal-style look is definitely the loose-fitted white crochet dress.
The designer duo behind the Badgley Mischka label used Buenos Aires of the 1950’s as inspiration for the spring/summer 2016 collection. Their evening looks combine classical silhouettes with shimmery metallic jacquards and sensual floral and butterfly prints.
Pamella Roland was influenced by the work of Frank Stella and combined rough geometric shapes with floating fabrics to create gorgeous white gowns which we think would make amazing wedding dresses. One of our favourite looks was a gleaming column organza gown with a cape-like train!
