Monique Lhuillier Spring/Summer 2016 Bridal

Monique Lhuillier found inspiration in Lewis Carol’s Alice in Wonderland and created a gorgeous collection of angelic and yet seductive wedding dresses that feature miles of tulle, delightful embroideries and embellishments – ideal for a modern fairytale bride who wants to look and feel special.

Monique Lhuillier is well known for her romantic wedding dresses, which look like they come from a fantasy world, and yet they are perfectly suited for the contemporary bride who is passionate about fashion and beautiful things. She loves working with embellishments, soft colours and delicate fabrics, which she used in abundance while creating her bridal collection for spring/summer 2016. Inspired by Lewis Carol’s famous book Alice in Wonderland, she focused on both the bright and dark side of the bride, which resulted in two types of dresses: innocent princess-style ball gowns and sultry fit-and-flare styles.

Voluminous skirts feature hundreds of metres of tulle, which is layered and sculpted in most playful and original ways, and they are contrasted with intricately embroidered tops and very deep necklines. These dreamy ball gowns adorned with gleaming crystals were not only influenced by the fascinating story of Alice, but also by the dresses that little girls may fantasise about when trying to imagine their future wedding. One of the most striking pieces is certainly a blush pink gown with a plunging neckline and a big tiered skirt with bling spilled all over it. We also fell in love with two lovely A-line slip dresses that feature embellished bodices and soft tulle skirts.

Mermaid and trumpet dresses from the collection are more modern and sensual, but also equally romantic as the ball gowns since they feature sparkly embellishments, seductive laces, floral appliqués and draped silks. Some of them even have fluttery tulle overlays, which add a strong romantic flavour, but without camouflaging female curves with an oversized skirt. You can choose between styles with long and short sleeves, plunging backs or strapless styles. The novelty Lhuillier introduced in this collection is a range of transformable dresses, which you can wear in more than one way.

Apart from white and ivory tones, the colour palette features a lot of blush pinks, as well as soft shades of cinnamon, honey and sky blue, offering modern brides a variety of options. The styling was exciting too as the models were wearing sparkly hair bands, elegant earrings and dramatic veils which were sometimes sported as mini capes to cover the shoulders and arms.
