With each collection influenced by a different era, Jenny Packham’s wedding gowns have strong vintage flair, but retro elements are always cleverly combined with modern tendencies and the label’s signature embellishments that make the dresses so unique and recognisable. From dramatic necklines and lace overlays to majestic ostrich feathers and new colours, the designer incorporated key bridal trends for 2016 into her spring/summer collection inspired by the English Renaissance.
The famous play by Shakespeare’s - A Midsummer Night’s Dream served as inspiration for the set design, hair, make-up, styling and the collection itself. Models looked like modern fairies while walking down the catwalk in dreamy gowns and gorgeous silver shoes. Flushed cheeks and mermaid hair adorned with sparkly crowns and clips looked very innocent and ladylike, while fresh flower bouquets and corsages with foliage added a bohemian vibe to the collection.
The show was opened with a beautiful white empire waist gown that featured cape-like sleeves and a bejewelled bodice, while the closing style was a champagne-coloured dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and flamboyant feather detailing accentuated with sparkly crystals. We also spotted some gorgeous summer wedding dresses which are simple and effortless but very chic, with a hint of bohemian flair. We think they are ideal for beach weddings at faraway exotic destinations or romantic rustic-style celebrations in the picturesque countryside. For brides who prefer a more glamorous affair, there were plenty of beautifully embellished, opulent gowns – perfect for formal evening weddings.
Exciting and unique elements that Jenny Packham introduces in this collection are the eye-catching 3D organza blooms and velvet bows in contrasting colours wrapped around the waist, which are just wonderfully romantic and feminine. Floral motives give a nod to blossoming nature in spring, while gleaming Swarovski crystals look like raindrops in an enchanted forest. The dresses appeared even more magical against the woodland-themed background which looked like the stage design for Shakespeare’s play. The colour palette features some beautiful new shades also inspired by nature such as soft meadow green and platinum gray, while silhouettes include fabulous voluminous A-line shaped skirts, sculpted corsets and renaissance-style empire waists.
