Ralph & Russo Spring/Summer 2015 Couture Collection: The Awakening of Flora

Shiny embroidery, floral appliqués, soft pastel colours and elegant silhouettes were the key elements of the Ralph & Russo couture collection for spring and summer 2015 showcased at Paris’ iconic Grand Palais.

Owned by Australian-born designer Tamara Ralph and her husband Michael Russo, Ralph & Russo is the only British label qualified to participate in the Paris Haute Couture Week. The list of their VIP supporters includes Angelina Jolie, Beyonce, Eva Longoria and Dita Von Teese who was spotted in the first row. Their latest collection indeed channels 1950s Hollywood glamour, which is Von Teese’s signature look, but also combines timeless elegance and contemporary style. From fifties-style cocktail frocks and ethereal organza dresses to a flamboyant wedding gown that closed the show, every look from the range oozes with elegance and sophistication.

The theme of the spring/summer 2015 couture collection was ‘The Awakening of Flora’ and the inspiration comes from Botticelli’s Primavera and Poussin’s Realm of Flora. Floral motifs were everywhere, sewn into luxurious fabrics, embroidered in tulle and sculpted from delicate organza. The colour palette was inspired by lush botanical gardens and included soft shades of pomegranate pink, cornflower blue and mint, along with whites, silvers and ivories.

The opening look was a gorgeous below-the-knee cape dress in silver embellished with pink flower appliqués, followed by an off-the-shoulder gown in cornflower blue. If you want to get married in a fifties-inspired frock, these two designs are simply perfect, but if you are looking for an elegant tea-length dress for your summer wedding, the strapless one with a tulle skirt adorned with embroidered flowers in light pastel shades could be your ultimate choice.

From short styles with hooped hems to layered organza dresses that resemble oversized spring blooms, almost each look could double as a wedding day outfit, but the bridal gown that closed the show was absolutely breathtaking! It featured a long train and embroidered veil that mimicked the design of the dress which was covered in silver embroidery and thousands of hand-sewn glittery beads. This elaborate wedding gown is ideal for traditional brides, while other dresses from the collection could be appealing to women who want something a little different for their big day.

Ralph & Russo couture gowns are not eccentric or outrageous, but simply very beautiful and feminine. They are designed to flatter your body shape and make you look like a princess, for that one most-special day in your life. Apart from their signature retro silhouettes, we have seen some innovative elements too, such as multiple peplums, layered ruffles and silk capes.
