Diamonds, Pearls, Lace & Glamour: Julien Macdonald Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Renowned for his sexy and luxurious red carpet gowns, Julien Macdonald is much loved by celebrities and never fails to impress his VIP clientele. His spring/summer 2015 collection was showcased at the Royal Opera House and it was inspired by the underwater world and beautiful mermaids.

We saw plenty of gorgeous white and shimmery metallic frocks that could double as bridal gowns, but he also made two breathtaking wedding dresses. It was the first time he has shown bridal couture on the catwalk and it was truly spectacular. The first bridal look was a ruffled mini slip dress paired with a long veil which makes the perfect outfit for a beach wedding. The show was closed with a super-glamorous white lace mermaid gown worth over 4 million pounds as it is embellished with real diamonds and ocean pearls. “It is the most important day in a woman’s life and why not have the most expensive dress in the world”, said the designer about his stunning gown. When asked who would he like to see wearing it he replied “Nicole Scherzinger”.

Julien Macdonald’s latest collection was subtle and much less flamboyant than the previous ones, but it was nevertheless very beautiful, glamorous and expensive. It was incredibly soft and romantic with plenty of lace, ruffles, intricate embroidery and delicate embellishments, but there was also an element of roughness with tattoo-like prints inspired by a mermaid’s dream man. The colour palette includes light shades like blush pink, sky blue, white and ivory, while fabrics are very lightweight and ethereal. There were also metallic shades and sparkly embellishments resembling the glistering surface of the ocean.

Make-up artist Val Garland created a beautiful, gleaming mermaid-like look to complement the dresses.  She used St. Tropez self tan luxe dry oil to create a gorgeous sun-kissed effect, which was enhanced with a subtle gold shimmer and a bit of blush. She completed the look with dramatic smoky eyes in metallic shades and a soft, apricot lipstick applied in the centre of the lip.

Hair stylist James Pecis opted for sleek, textured hair parted in the middle and tied with an elastic band at the back. He used L’Oreal Paris styling products to add more definition to the hair and we think this is the perfect look for a beach wedding during hot summer months. The Bridal look was slightly different with two neat braids bound together at the back and white lace glued to the hair.
