Macarthur, NSW

The Macarthur region is located in the south west of Sydney, and includes the city of Campbelltown, as well as the smaller hubs of Camden and Picton in the Wollondilly Shire.

Covering an area of just over 3,000 square kilometres, the countryside (the birthplace of Australia’s wool, wheat and wine industries) is absolutely steeped in history. These wonderful links with the earliest days of colonial settlement are beautifully exemplified by the many magnificent heritage listed buildings scattered throughout the area. This architectural visual feast alone is reason enough to choose Macarthur for your destination wedding. The photo opportunities that exist here are matched by few others – and the benefits don’t stop there.

Surrounded by a sweeping landscape of rolling hills, you’ll also find nature reserves, gorgeous public gardens including Macarthur Park and the stunning Japanese Gardens, and a 400 hectare botanic garden with themed gardens and interactive sculptures.

In fact, Macarthur offers a multitude of fabulous wedding day options that will inspire and delight you. Venues are plentiful and offer a wide variety of wedding packages, quaint and historic churches are dotted throughout the region, and attractions of every variety will keep your guests happily entertained for the duration of their stay, no matter what their age or interests. Accommodation options include luxury hotels, serviced apartments, family motels, boutique B&Bs, and holiday parks.

Accessing the region couldn’t be easier. Campbelltown, which also boasts an excellent train service, is just under a 60 kilometre drive from Sydney while Camden is slightly over 70 kilometres from the city. And meandering through some truly beautiful countryside, the drive to historic Picton in the heart of Wollondilly Shire is 81 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.

Planning your Macarthur destination wedding day will be nothing short of a delight. All the wedding service providers you could possibly need are right there, and many of them have won awards for the excellence of their work. Picking your wedding day theme and style can be an anxious time or a lot of fun. Because you’ve chosen the historic Macarthur region for your big day, why not tap into some of that history and add an unforgettable touch or two to your celebrations?

Arriving a few days prior to the big event is always an excellent destination wedding idea. You will then have the opportunity to put the final touches to arrangements before relaxing at a day spa, where you might like to treat yourself to a massage, manicure, herbal peel, or a totally indulgent facial. It’s worth noting that in the Macarthur region, there are some day spas that offer hens’ party bookings, as well as spray tans and the services of a make-up professional.

Accommodation options abound: from stylish new hotels, B&Bs and motels, to the warm welcome of a Tudor style country inn that looks for all the world like an old English pub.

Your wedding photography is a vital component of your day and will afford you the opportunity to relive some very precious memories as the years go by. Selecting from the Macarthur region’s excellent photographers will ensure that you have someone with the local knowledge necessary to help you choose the best locations.

If you have decided against a church wedding, many local venues offer the option of hosting your ceremony as well as reception, and have dedicated staff who will do all that they can to assist you.
