South Coast, NSW

Love the idea of saying “I do” against a backdrop of sparkling blue waves and dazzling white sandy beaches? How about strolling through pristine green forests as you laze away your honeymoon in a state of relaxed bliss?

And did we mention historic villages, quaint churches, great reception venues, a full range of wedding service providers, fabulous food and wine, every accommodation option imaginable, and one of the most temperate climates in Australia? Access to this paradise is as easy as taking the Princes Highway out of Sydney as you head off on your exploration of the glorious New South Wales’ South Coast.

This fabulous destination wedding location is divided into several equally divine regions: the vibrant, bustling Wollongong area, Kiama, Shellharbour, sparkling Jervis Bay, Shoalhaven and the delightful towns of Nowra, Mollymook and Ulladulla, Batemans Bay and the Eurobodalla, and at the South Coast’s southernmost tip, the beauty of the Sapphire Coast.

As you head south, the coastline unfolds in a series of beautiful bays and coves, dotted with historic townships known for their fine food, wines and great country markets. If you’re into arts, craft and browsing for unique, or unusual treasures, you won’t be disappointed. And all this is set against a hinterland of rolling hills and spectacular national parks that stretch as far as the eye can see – an ancient green canopy that shelters creatures both great and small.

Amid all this South Coast charm, you’ll discover a diverse selection of venues: from beachside country clubs, historic churches and heritage listed homesteads, to fantastic function centres and boutique hotels. Many venues offer wedding packages and superb in-house catering options that make the very best of the region’s excellent fresh produce, wines and succulent seafood. And as for your guests, they’ll have more than enough to keep them pleasurably entertained no matter what their preferences: from those who thrive in the ambience of coffee shops and cosmopolitan shopping precincts, to lovers of the outdoors who will revel in the swimming, diving, fishing and canoeing opportunities afforded by crystal clear bays, lakes and rivers, not to mention the spectacular bush walking tracks and bicycle trails.

Once you have decided upon your wedding location, call into the nearest Tourist Information Office and ask for information on local wedding service providers. It’s a great way to start the search for your dream team.

The entire region is home to a wide variety of wedding specialists - from cake makers and florists, to photographers and entertainers – and many of them award winning. The only difficulty you might encounter is that you’re spoilt for choice! And another hot tip: be sure to book early as these professionals are in demand by other couples who have also fallen under the South Coast’s magical spell.

If you decide to escape to your South Coast haven for a few days of pre-wedding pampering, there’s no shortage of essential services. Day spas, hairstylists, beauty therapists and make-up artists are all nearby.

The South Coast also makes an ideal honeymoon location. Spend your days lazing on the beach, enjoying picnics in secluded hideaways, exploring the National Parks, and visiting the region’s many quaint villages.

If your dream honeymoon includes great shopping and a vibrant nightlife, you will find all this and more in cosmopolitan Wollongong, the State’s third largest city, renowned for its fine food and wine, and unlimited entertainment and recreational opportunities.
