meal and accommodation

    Most of our family live close by. But we want to get married 3 hours away from where us and our family and friends live.

    Is it ok to ask them to pay for their own meal but us pay for close families accommodation?
    What is everyone's view on this and do you think it's a good idea.

    As long as your not asking for gifts then I don't see the issue. Guests will usually buy a gift or put into wishing well. That money they haven't spent on a gift or wishing well will just go to accommodation and fuel. Comes down to it it YOUR day if they want to be apart of it they will come.
