Elie Saab Haute Couture Autumn 2017/2018: The Tale Of Fallen Kings

Inspired by the queens of medieval times, Elie Saab created a nostalgic collection in rich jewel tones and beautifully adorned with gold embellishments and delicate feathers.

The setting for Elie Saab’s haute couture gowns was “a snow-covered kingdom where forgotten forests and stone-built castles tell stories of epic battles that have been fought, lost and won in a tale of fallen Kings.”

Elements like wide waistbands, long capes, kaftans, fur stoles and evening gowns made from rich, luxurious winter fabrics in ruby reds, sapphire blues and emerald greens were inspired by medieval times. There is also a range of dresses made from lighter materials in soft pastels and creamy shades, each lavishly adorned with bold, gleaming embellishments. While silky velvets were embellished with golden embroidery, the vintage-style laces and sheer organzas were festooned with colourful feathers.

The theme was further developed with headpieces and bold jewellery influenced by medieval queens, but modern elements included plunging necklines, bare shoulders, high slits on skirts and sheer fabrics.

Our favourite bridal looks include the strapless sheath gown worn with a ball gown overlay and a hooded cape, the sheer long-sleeved dress with floral embroidery and the pale blue beaded satin A-line gown.
