I recently interviewed Lisa Tyler, the head designer for Australian fashion label REVIEW, to find out about their latest bridesmaid collection and what trends are emerging for bridesmaids this coming wedding season.
How long have you been in the fashion industry?
I have been working in the industry for over 15 years in both the UK and Australia.
What was your inspiration for the collection?
The new REVIEW Bridal collection takes inspiration from vintage romance, looking back at past eras that are romanticised today. The collection features delicate lace and pretty beading detailing, with a soft and muted colour palette inspired by romantic tones. Lace is definitely a key fabrication for the collection.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
The Starlette Maxi Dress with shimmering pearl bead detailing around the waist is my favourite piece. It is a great feature for bridesmaids walking down the aisle, as it has the gorgeous detailing visible on both the front and back of the dress.
What wedding theme/s do you think these gowns would suit?
The REVIEW Bridal Collection is well-suited to romantic, more traditional weddings, such as a vintage-inspired wedding down to every element, including table settings and flowers. A bouquet with peonies, featuring romantic blush tones and ivories would perfect.
What are the bridesmaid dress trends for 2016?
Bridesmaids are still wearing muted and romantic colours, in shades of champagne and brushed pink. I’ve noticed some brides are also leaning towards more floral printed options which add a lot of fun especially in 50s prom silhouettes. Styling your bridal party in different dress silhouettes, but in the same colour, is also becoming increasingly popular, which gives bridesmaids the option of wearing dresses to complement their body shape and dress to their individual style. Gone are the days of the bride selecting the same style of dress for all of her bridesmaids, so we have made sure to offer different silhouettes across the same colour to cater for this. Navy is also a huge trend for bridal parties as it’s such a rich sophisticated colour and suits every skin tone. The Hummingbird Dress in a gorgeous shade of navy is a perfect option.
What are the key accessories to go with this collection?
Definitely an embellished sash belt to add a bit of sparkle. As we are in winter, I would also suggest a fur cape or stole. Jewellery should be classic and kept to a minimum. All of our dresses are designed to tone well with neutral shoes, or shoes with a slight hint of embellishment. You can never go wrong with a classic nude pump – this shoe complements any of the pieces in the collection.
