Bridal Jewellery Trend: Black Diamonds

Opaque and mysterious, black diamonds are becoming increasingly popular with fashion forward brides.

It became a huge trend since the movie Sex and the City movie when Mr Big proposed to Carrie with a beautiful black diamond engagement ring and said: “because you are not like anyone else”. This gorgeous ring with a 5 carat stone and an 18 karat white gold setting with white pave diamonds was created by Itay Malkin with a little help from stylist Patricia Field and actress Sarah Jessica Parker. It became an instant hit and inspired many jewellers to work with black diamonds.

We think that black stones are very elegant and look particularly chic with a platinum setting and tiny white diamonds. It can also be very stylish when paired with rose and yellow gold, and you can even choose matching his and hers wedding bands because black rocks look fabulous on men too.

Black diamonds are less expensive than regular ones, but you can also use onyx or black spinel since they look very similar.
