The Old Parliament House is one of Australia’s most loved buildings and a prestigious wedding venue located right in the heart of Canberra. Nothing compares its historic significance and beautiful architecture, offering the most unique backdrops for your wedding photography. It is a popular Canberra wedding venue catering for up to 500 guests at a banquet-style reception, but there is also a myriad of smaller functions perfect for hosting smaller events.

Built in 1927, the Old Parliament House was the home of Federal Parliament until 1988, and it was the social, geographic and political centre of Australia’s capital. It is associated with some of the country’s most significant moments, and a place where the most important decisions were made. The building is a ‘museum of itself’ and of Australia’s political heritage, but it also has huge architectural value. It has been designed by John Smith Murdoch, the first Commonwealth Government architect, and it features an abundance of natural light coming from windows, skylights and light wells, sweeping verandahs, colonnades and strong horizontal lines.

There are 13 stunning spaces available for hire to the public, and they include three Members’ Dining Rooms, two private dining rooms, the Members’ Bar, the Courtyard Room, the Terrace Room, the Senate Chamber and the House Representatives Chamber, King’s Hall, the Senate Courtyard and the House of Representatives Courtyard.

These elegant functions can be styled to create the wedding of your dreams, and customer service is truly outstanding. Venue’s experienced event staff will help you take care of every detail and guide you through both design and delivery of your special day so that you can host a celebration all of your guests will remember for a lifetime.
